Practice Profile

Formally known as Long Lane Medical Centre

The practice was one of the first General Practitioners to be established in Hillingdon. It originally had three sites, two of which were in residential houses, quite usual in the late 1940’s, and the third being at 299 Long Lane. In 1950 the Long Lane premises added a “state of the art” purpose built surgery. Eventually, with retiring Doctors, the three sites came down to the one at 299 Long Lane. The building had two consulting rooms, a records/treatment room, a waiting room and a toilet. In 1990, the surgery premises now no longer considered fit for purpose, the practice secured the use of the flat over the adjacent shop to house the Nurse, the Practice Manager and the Practice Secretary. This was only ever a “stop gap” solution and the search for new premises began in earnest. There were many possible sites and disappointments but eventually some eleven years later the current site in Freezeland Way was identified and purchased, and Hillingdon Health Centre was opened here on 23rd September 2002.

Currently our list size is 7500.

We have one full-time Principal, Dr. Atul Mehta and three part-time salaried GP Assistants Dr. Sureena Bhattacharya, Dr. Alka Babber and Dr. Rakesh Jivan.

We have two part-time Practice Nurses, Julie O’Sullivan and Michaela Staddon

Our administration staff consists of Shuba Mehta, part-time Practice Manager, Nasima Khatun full-time Reception Manager and we have five part-time receptionists. Our other part-time staff include a part-time records/scanning clerk and a secretary.

We are a “paperlight” practice. We scan all paper documents into the system and our Data Entry clerk updates the patient records from the paper documents. They are held for a short while and then shredded. The system is backed up daily and the back up tapes are verified as being capable of restoring our system four times a year. Consultations are conducted using the computer system, no paper notes are used. 100% of our paper records are culled, tagged in date order and summarised on computer. We receive Pathology results, Radiology results and Out of Hours reports electronically. We use Accounting software for salaries and Practice Accounts.

Our Practice area basically covers Ickenham and Hillingdon. We have some patients in Ruislip as the Practice took over a retiring GP’s list that had a branch surgery in South Ruislip. Just over 20% of our list is over the age of 65, many of whom have been registered with the practice over 40 years.

We are open Monday to Friday 8.15am to 6.15pm. We close the doors for one hour 1.00pm to 2.00pm for training and administration purposes, but are still available by telephone. We have morning and evening surgeries available for Doctors and Nurses, with a Phlebotomy service on Wednesday mornings only.

Dr. Mehta is a GP Appraiser and a qualified GP Trainer.
